Feathering Fridays: 3 things…

A favorite pastime of mine is perusing Fashion Magazines. My 3 favorites are Vogue, Bazaar and InStyle. [Occasionally, I pick up a copy of More, just to stay in touch with my age demographic].

Every year these periodicals and their associated blogs, run a “best of” cosmetic product series.

I often wonder if the advertisers in these publications have a heavy say in what arises as the best. That said, I consistently find 3 things that hit the lists:

  • Georgio Armani Foundation (in various forms)
  • YSL Touch Eclat highlighting concealer
  • Tom Ford lipsticks

A few months ago, Milwaukee laid out the welcome mat for a brand spanking new Nordstrom’s. I visited this marketplace of wonders in early December and never moved beyond the cosmetic department (big surprise, right?)

I was determined to re-visit, so as to really take in the store and its layout.I did just that today, and also visited the cosmetic department.

This time, I found the holy grail of the mighty 3 mentioned above. I also encountered some of the nicest beauty assistants and managers I’ve ever had the joy of chatting with!

Today, I will share my experience with Tom Ford lipstick.

I was strolling along the far wall of the make-up madness garden of Eden when I literally walked into the Tom Ford lipstick display and almost jumped out of my boots! The TF manager—a really nice woman—offered to assist me. I had one request: I just wanted to try on the shade, “Casablanca.” That was all.

OMG!

I had found my perfect nude!

An aside here—I have been on the hunt for my version of the perfect nude for some time now and have not managed to duplicate what I tried on today.

The manager explained to me that Tom Ford lipsticks are patented in both color and formula, which is why they are $52.00.

Yes. That was correct–52.00.

I confess that she almost had me. Almost.

My “try on the make-up mantra” is this: I will live in this product for the remainder of the day before forming my decision.

She was more than happy to oblige me in this request.

The verdict?

My mouth felt fabulous until I ate an apple 3 hours later.

The color itself stayed, which surprised me. Nude and pink tones tend to disappear from my skin rather quickly. My lips did dry out after eating. I suppose if I had purchased the lipstick and reapplied it, I would have been fine. [see the aforementioned barrier of a price tag of $52.00…]

My advice—find a store that sells this fabulous product. Then try it on. Even if you just wear it for a few hours, you will have captured a fine slice of life.  After all, Tom Ford lipstick is one of the big three…

Next Friday…YSL
