Feathering Fridays: Sephora Safari part 2…

Back to Tales of the Jungle…

A couple of weeks ago, I entered the great cosmetic jungle known as Sephora, a generous Christmas Gift Card in hand, and began a product safari. I purchased my first NARS lipstick, a YSL Touché Éclat Neutralizer, a Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Color, and [a beauty insider perk] received a generous sample size of Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.

All of these products were on my, “I’d like to try them, but not sure how much I really want to spend on them” bucket list.

And?

It was great fun—especially since I only owed $4.00 after using my gift card.

Spend very little? Check.

I have not yet used the GA foundation, as I am finishing up my Estee Lauder Perfectionist bottle.

But, I have been enjoying the lipstick, the eye stick, and the YSL.

I’ve already shared my thoughts on the lipstick [please see my January 29 post if you are interested.]

Today, I’d like to share my thoughts on the YSL Neutralizer and the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick. Are you ready?

First—YSL Touché Éclat:

  • comes in 3 colors: violet, green and bisque.
  • Price point: $38.00—do-able

I have tried color correctors in the past with very little success. This one, however, fits the bill.

If you’ve read any of my beauty posts, you know that I dismissed the Touché Éclat concealer/highlighter as ineffective for the price. Why then did I go to its sister product? The main complaint I have come upon regarding the Touché Éclat highlighter/concealer is that it needs to be used over another concealer. The neutralizer is the answer to this product dilemma. I use it under my concealer but on a low make-up day, I could use it alone. I purchased the bisque, which is an orange tone. After applying it, my under eye bags are greatly diminished. I’ve not ever experienced this type of coverage success! Besides the great camouflage it offers, the TE is gentle and comfortable. I do not even know I have it on. I am sold on this product!

Next up: Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Color:

  • Smooth as silk
  • Incredible staying power
  • Great depth of color
  • Price point: $29.00—comparable to other products of this quality

My daughter-in-law introduced me to these eye sticks. She has fabulous eyes and really rocks these shadows!

I took a little field trip to Nordstrom’s about a month ago and checked out the caviar sticks—I saw fabulous colors and tried 3 of them on my hand. Eleven hours later, I needed make-up remover to take them away.  This was after doing some dishes, washing my hands and general wear time. I was excited to purchase one or more but wanted to do it at Sephora [i.e. gift card!] Problem: Sephora did not carry the newer colors I had tried at Nordstrom. Not to be daunted, I selected the Khaki tone, which is advertised to be a deep taupe. The color is fabulous. I am not disappointed!

Bottom line—I am pleased with the quality, staying power, feel and general aesthetics of the YSL and the Laura Mercier cosmetics.

Next week: let’s get natty…

Have a great weekend everyone and be kind to yourself and all you meet!
