Feathering Fridays: roses are red—and coming up everywhere…

I have a rule about winter. Once I reach my birthday [February 13], I am DONE with winter.

Right. I do reside in Wisconsin and we are often teased by the dream of winter’s end, like today, for instance. The temps are flirting with the mid-60’s. I responsibly wore leggings and a sweater, but donned sandals and said, “farewell coat”.  Next week, who knows? I’m rather certain that we are good for a snow storm or two before we officially arrive in Sprummer.

[Sprummer is the period of Spring morphing overnight into Summer, in case you wondered…]

Another rule—I never take my winter boots out of the car until June 1. [see above]

All of that rambling leads me to the point of today’s post: Spring clothes!

I have a rather full closet, but I need outfits for the various seasons we experience in this state.  Refreshing and pitching are a big part of the seasonal wardrobe exchange. Today, being such a lovely Spring tease type of day, I chose to refresh and pitch!

[segue to the rose idea…]

I have been seeing roses everywhere—they are embroidered, printed, three dimensional, twisted from ribbons, beaded. I’ve found them blooming on purses and shoes; sprouting into headbands; fabricated into large and petite sized necklaces, chokers, earrings and bracelets. Everywhere. Bohemian and classy lady. Young, established, you name it, you can find them. Rose motifs are not limited to clothing. The perfume industry is O.D.-ing on it as well. Aerin Lauder has a lovely [and rather over-priced] line of rose fragrances available in cream, spray, oil and body wash.

I suspect that Dolce and Gabbana are the trend starters here—for at least three years their lines have featured floral embellishments, especially the rose ilk.

I also wonder if designers have picked up on the need for us to connect with beauty. The rose is the ultimate symbol of beauty and of course, of love. We are desperate for some love in our world.

Seeking some beauty and love, I headed to Ann Taylor, my go-to store. I tried on many outfits but selected a graphic print blouse [40% off], a pale blue sleeveless floral print dress [50% off the clearance price], a pair of earrings and a bracelet [60% off clearance], and the piece de resistance,  a lovely rose print scarf. This will complete a great olive lantern sleeve dress, same company.

The best news: [practical moment here] This outfit will help my closet situation and diminish the pitching process as it will travel Spring, Fall and Winter.

Love it.

PS…yes, I did pitch a few items–a dark brown silk blouse cut too low in the neckline for me and a great black and white print dress worn for a number of seasons and ready for another life.

  1. Roses never lose their appeal do they? They may fade for a while on the fashion scene but always come again to bloom their best. Thanks to you I now know what next summer’s trend will be. I just have to survive the heat of this one!
